FAAB Recommendation
Week 4 served as a reminder of the importance of flexibility and depth in the MFFL, as COVID-19 interrupted play for managers with starting players on both Tennessee and Pittsburgh. We've all been dealing with the cruel bitch that is 2020, but some of you gambled on starters this week and it came up BIG. Many of the gambles came down to the Monday night double-header, featuring high profile busts and potential fantasy superstars in the making (Hello Big Bob Tonyan). We had a little taste of everything, and here's how it all played out in the MFFL.
We'll start off our recaps with the COMMISH BOWL. Reece Beaumont Pagel started off very strong and never looked back. Getting two touchdowns each from Todd Gurley, Mark Andrews and CeeDee Lamb - it was a god damn fantasy bonanza over there. Can't exactly say the same for Matt Dietrich, who pieced together an alright lineup considering his 1st round pick and starting QB became unavailable and all that was left was the skank squad. The running back production was poor, as was the uncharacteristically cold performance from Tyler Lockett. Reece comes out as the superior commish, and he'll look to keep it rolling with his matchup against Gavin Fahey.
The horseshoe is still firmly placed high and tight between Chris Barker's meat flaps, as he tallies another W in his matchup against Jake Warren. Chris had 4 of his starters failed to meet projections, and had to perform the desperation play of starting both New Orleans running backs at the same time. Normally this would make any other team crumble. Yet he still walks away victorious. With an opponent in Trevor Cushard who has 1 QB on COVID-IR and 4 other players on Bye, he likely cruises to victory again in week 5. Chris Barker has some of the best bologna drapes in the MFFL.
Aaron Rodgers is having another MVP season, and Trevor Cushard is benefiting from that. Rodgers has gifted him 13 touchdowns and no interceptions through the first quarter of the MFFL season. Meanwhile his receiving core of Mike Evans and Devante Parker also saw target share increases, which typically lead to increase in fantasy points. Ipso facto, or however you say that shit. He'll get a whiff of Chris's meat flaps next week and probably run the other way with a loss, but you got to like what you see with this guy's team. A real surprise to everyone so far this season. I don't have many good things to say about Dan Serra's performance. He hoped that gaining possession of the new trophy would help him secure his first win, but it certainly did not (Sad Trombone sound effect inserted here).
Gavin Fahey pulls off the Monday Night Miracle, securing the win with a hobbled Julio Jones over Ryan Sarros. This was a close one folks. The quarterback performance once again is the highlight to mention. Dak Prescott is on pace to throw for 6,760 yards which would break the NFL record by over 1,000 yards! It's this kind of permanent garbage time that Dallas seems to get themselves in week-to-week that will make Gavin's team tough to go against. This marks Ryan's third loss in a row, and certainly the most painful to date - losing by less than 1 point. He now plummets down to 13th place in the MFFL standings. Nearby stores are running out of boxed wine and weed to numb the pain of these fantasy finishes.
Leave it to Jon Jakusz to scoop up Packers players on the cheap, and find a way to plug them in the lineup for the Win. This was a victory nobody saw coming, as Mr. 14 Zach Gratton's team was running red hot. For whatever reason his team took their foot off the gas with only 1 player exceeding their projected points. Jon also took my advice from last week and scooped up Robert Tonyan - AKA Baby Kittle. AKA Bobby Touchdowns. After the Packers bye week, there's a starter you can plug in your lineup every week going forward.
No Ridley, No Problem. Kevin Holland did the victory lap this week because both Joe Mixon and Odel Beckham made up for lost time and accounted for 5 touchdowns. Boom Baby. Top that off with a Cam-less New England team that couldn't get anything going, that's what ultimately delivered Matt Orzolek his 2nd loss this season. Competition is fierce in the MFFL, these two teams have identical records, however sit on opposite sides of the standings. A win next week over Jon would help propel Kevin's team up the ranks.
It wasn't the sexiest win I've ever seen, but Tony Vester launched himself into the top 3 in the MFFL standings by defeating Matt Knott. The Stafford --> Kenny G connection continues to be soooo smooth (sexy saxophone playing in background), and 1st round choice Dalvin Cook is paying off in a big way. The lineup is good, the bench depth is strong and the wins keep coming for Tony. The only hiccup you may see in the schedule is this coming Sunday as Tony gets hit hard from the Detroit bye week. Dan Serra better pray that the point totals remain low in an attempt to get his first win this season.
Trevor's Beefer looks mighty fine this week. This might be the best win of your MFFL career bud. Most of the time your performance resembles the old lady from the Wendy's commercial... But this week it's all you man. That beef is certified baby.
Nick Chubb and Austin Ekeler were sidelined in the first half of their games, which may start another FAAB frenzy this week on Waivers. We also have our first 'real' BYE weeks beginning with Detroit and Green Bay, both teams accounting for many fantasy-relevant play makers. So here's some action we can expect to see tomorrow morning.
QBs - The available pool of Quarterbacks is pretty gross. Your best play is Gardner Minshew, but even he smells like head cheese and it isn't a favorable matchup against Houston who has a pretty nice pass defense (only thing really working for that team right now). You want to take a flier at QB, I'll say go pickup Jimmy Garoppolo and hope for a week 5 return against Miami. That's got more potential.
RBs - D'Ernest Johnson is my pick of the week. With Chubb on IR and Hunt still a little banged up - there's opportunity for points in the Cleveland backfield. The upcoming matchup with Indy is a tough one, but I think he gets plugged in right away to see what they have with him. Other notable RBs include Justin Jackson, Boston Scott or Jordan Howard if you like goal line work possibly turning into 1 yard touchdowns.
WRs - I grabbed him last week but then had to drop him for RB depth - but Scotty Miller is still very fantasy relevant. He's hard to trust and plug into a lineup, but if you got a bye week situation, why wouldn't you try to get him in your lineup for Thursday Night Football. Golden Tate still has some PPR value, and maybe a new coaching scheme will get Brandin Cooks some additional looks in that Houston offense.
TEs - I'm calling for the Chris Herndon breakout this week. Especially if Darnold doesn't suit up for the Jets. Jared Cook and Drew Sample are other nice options with semi-favorable matchups
Don't Stream D/ST - leave that to me. OK great. Thanks.
As always - best of luck this week you fuckers. Except for you Jake. You can fuck right off. Your team will be outscored by George Kittle himself.
